Josh Larsen was a flawless five for five and took home the Firecracker Derby Championship from Inland Motorcycle Speedway in San Bernardino.

Larsen and Jimmy "Little Animal" Fishback both entered the main event undefeated, but Larsen won the draw for first gate choice he selected gate one while Fishback picked gate two. The two left the line together when the tapes went up and were wheel to wheel through turns one and two. The pair remained in lockstep on the back straight but Fishback gained a slight advantage through turns three and four. Larsen was able to gain ground back on the front straight and held a small lead entering turn one. Larsen exited turn two with the lead and deftly drifted into Fishback's line on the back straight and thwarted his momentum. Larsen secured the lead entering turn three while Fishback tried to make another run at the leader. The former Youth National Champion would never get close enough and Larsen was first to the checkered flag. Fishback had to settle for second, "Fast" Eddie Castro was third, "Flyin" Mike Faria finished fourth, and Dukie Ermolenko was fifth.

Larsen led off the heats with a win over Dale Facchini. Castro beat Rick "The Rage" Valdez in the second heat. Fishback used the outside to pass Tyson Talkington for the lead and the win in event three. Ermolenko ended the first round with a win over Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell.

Aaron Fox began the second round with a win over Drew Coats. Larsen earned his second straight win and Castro narrowly defeated Valdez for second. Fishback defeated Ermolenko for his second win in a row. Faria led the last race of round two until going wide on the final corner and allowing McConnell to sneak by for the win.

Larsen opened the final round with a win over Ermolenko. Coats pulled off an impressive victory in event 24 to book his place in the semis just one week after winning the Second Division Main Event. Facchini led the next event until Fishback went by and took his third win. Fox led the final heat before Castro went around him on the outside and earned his second win.

Fishback and Castro finished one-two in the first semi to book their places in to the main. Larsen won the second semi for his fourth consecutive victory with Ermolenko following him into the main. Faria trapped from gate four in the Last Chance and held off McConnell to transfer to the main event.

Castro defeated Fox in the final battle of the initial Last of the Mohicans Last Man Out Challenge of 2011.

Industry Speedway, CA, USA - June 29

Former National Champion Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz turned in a brilliant performance and won the main event at Industry Speedway.

Schwartz, who turns 55 in August, had first gate choice in the main event and selected gate one. It proved to be a wise decision when he launched from the starting line and led the field into turn one. Jimmy "Little Animal" Fishback chased him down the back straight and tried to apply pressure as they entered turn three. The former World Pairs Champion withstood the challenge and was still the leader at the end of the first lap. It would prove to be Fishback's only opportunity as Schwartz began pulling away and lengthened his lead with each lap. Schwartz crossed the line first and received a standing ovation for his effort. Fishback finished second, Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell was third, Austin Novratil finished fourth, and Charlie "The Edge" Venegas was fifth.

Fishback started out the heats by chasing down John "Mongoose" Marquez and passing him on the outside for the lead and the win. "Fast" Eddie Castro was leading the second heat before an engine failure handed the victory to Venegas. Schwartz trapped from the outside and led the last heat of round one until Novratil pushed his way past in the final corner for the win.

Aaron Fox began round two with a win over Castro. Schwartz held off Fishback in event nine for his first win of the evening. Novratil beat McConnell to end the second round.

Schwartz opened the final round by beating Venegas. Faria kept McConnell at bay to win the next heat. Fishback finished the heats by beating Fox.

Venegas was victorious in the first semi with Novratil narrowly finishing second ahead of Fishback. Schwartz won the second semi for his third straight win and was followed into the main by McConnell. Fishback won the Last Chance to complete the main event field.

Victorville "Students Vs. Students"

Professors edge Students in team thriller at Victorville.

Eddie Castro and Shawn McConnell combined for a last heat 5-1 to take a narrow a victory for the 'Professors' over the 'Student's in an epic team encounter at Victorville, which pitted a team of riders over 40 versus a team of riders under 25. The match featured a full British League format race with all the trimmings - team riding, helmet colors, race bibs, rider replacement rule and tactical rides.

The action got underway with Castro leading home Joey Holt and Robbie Sauer for an opening heat 4-2. The race needed to be re run after a crash on lap one where Sauer sustained a rib injury, though despite being in obvious pain, he continued the whole night. Heat 2 featured the 1st Division debut of 15 year old American Touring Team rider Rocco Scopellite and he impressed with a fabulous charge from the back to win over guest rider Drew Coats from the Professors. Heat 3 was another tied race and another classic - Aaron Fox and John Marquez gated on a 5-1 only for Robbie Sauer to dive between them both to take the lead on lap two. Fox fought back to take the win whilst Doug Nicol got by Marquez. The Professors edged four up in heat 4 when McConnell won from Scopellite, Sonnier holding off Holt. Heat 5 was shared with Sauer winning from Holt and Manzares. Heat 6 had Castro and McConnell 5-1 over Dylan Black and Fox, putting the older riders up 22-14.

Heat 7 once again saw the Fox / Marquez pairing gate on a 5-1, but McConnell was having none of it with an outside pass stunning Fox, whilst Coats picked up a third place, making the lead ten points. Heat 8 had Casto lead home Scopellite and Holt.

Heat 9 was perhaps where the match turned. Students Manager Steve Graham elected #1 rider Gino Manzares for a tactical double point ride. Doug Nicol for the students took off and rode into the distance before a turn three fall earned his exclusion. Manzares did not get the bike down in time and collected Nicol, who had to withdraw from the match with a shoulder injury. Manzares got the 6 point win from Sauer and Black, so the ten point lead was down to 5 at 31-26.

Castro won his 4th from Fox and Marquez in heat 10. Heat 11 was perhaps the race of 16 year old Joey Holt's career. McConnell led the race but Holt, the student of McConnell for many years, took his teacher back to school with a stunning outside pass and the only defeat of McConnell all night. Manzares's third place brought the lead down to three. Heat 12 had another good ride from a Spring Touring Team member - Dylan Black holding second place behind a hugely impressive Aaron Fox, the 5-1 putting the Youngsters one point up. Heat 13 had Castro and McConnell take the lead back with a 5-1 over Marquez and Scopellite to put the Old team back up by three, though McConnell took three laps to find a way by Marquez. The lead once more swung back to the Young rider when Marquez had an excellent win in heat 14 with Scopellite following home, The one point lead was not enough though as Castro, who scored a fantastic 18 point maximum and McConnell gating and leading home Fox and Holt for a decisive 5-1

Larsen made another inside move through turns one and two but Fishback held the advantage on the back straight and cut to the inside line entering turn three the second time. Fishback remained on the inside line but he could not afford to make a mistake because Larsen was planted on his back tire. Fishback was flawless on the final two laps and held Larsen at bay for the win. "Fast" Eddie Castro finished third and Dukie Ermolenko was fourth.

Fishback kicked off the heats with a win over Tyson Talkington. Castro beat Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz in event two. Ermolenko beat Austin Novratil in event three. Aaron Fox ended round one with a win over Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell.

Josh Larsen followed his perfect evening at Costa Mesa with another flawless performance and captured the Ken Maely Shoe Championship at Inland Motorcycle Speedway in San Bernardino

.Larsen and "Fast" Eddie Castro both entered the main event unbeaten, but Larsen won the draw for first gate choice and selected gate one while Castro picked gate two. Larsen jetted away when the tapes arose with Castro following him into turn one. The former World Finalist led down the back straight and into turn three, but drifted a little wide coming out of turn four and Castro tried to blast up the inside. Larsen slammed the door shut as they entered turn one but Castro's deficit remained minimal. The diminutive rider forsook his usual outside line and hoped for an opening on the inside. Larsen wasn't budging off the pole, however, and no opportunity ever presented itself. Larsen was first to the checkered flag, Castro had to settle for second, Jimmy "Little Animal" Fishback was third, Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell finished fourth, and USA U21 Team Member Austin Novratil was fifth.

The heats began with Steve Russell leading before Fishback passed him on lap three for the lead and his first win. Novratil beat McConnell in event two. Castro stalked "Flyin" Mike Faria for three laps before passing him for his first win in race three. Larsen ended round one with a victory over John "Mongoose" Marquez.

Fishback started round two by beating Novratil. Castro defeated McConnell for his second straight win. Faria beat Brad Pappalardo in event 14. Larsen finished the second round with a win over Aaron Fox for his second win in a row.

Castro opened the final round by defeating Fishback for his third straight win. Josh Abbott impressively held off McConnell for a hard-fought victory. Fox beat Faria in event 25. Larsen defeated Novratil in the final heat to match Castro's perfect score.

Castro and Fishback finished one-two in the first semi and transferred to the main event. Larsen blazed to his fourth straight victory in the second semi with Novratil finishing second and following him into the main event. A crash ended the Last Chance Race prematurely and McConnell was awarded the victory and the final transfer into the main event.

Summary Courtesy of Ryan Evans

Fishback has won championships at other Southern California tracks during career, but began the evening without a main event victory from Industry Speedway. His perfect score allowed him first gate choice and he wisely selected the pole. The defending Western States Champion made the best start and controlled the lead through the first turn. He was followed on the back straight by John “Mongoose” Marquez on the inside and Charlie “The Edge” Venegas who was trying to make the outside work. Fishback was in no mood for drama and steadily increased his lead. Marquez secured second and Venegas dropped to the inside and hounded him throughout the race. Fishback was first to the checkered flag, Marquez held off Venegas for a career-best second place, Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell finished fourth, and “Flyin” Mike Faria was fifth.
